Broadband Deal Offer From Virgin

VIRGIN Broadband has become the latest company to tap into the Hunter's expanding telecommunications market with the introduction of its all-in-one broadband and phone package.

The company launched its $60-a-month package in the region last week after its successful introduction in other parts of Australia since last August.

Through the Optus 3G network, Virgin supplies WiFi broadband and a regular home phone service with free nationwide calls.

It supports download speeds of 512 kilobits a second.

The deal, only available on a 24-month subscription, is competing with wireless packages from Telstra, iBurst, Unwired and Vodafone.

Virgin refused to disclose the number of people who have taken up the package in the Hunter, but a spokeswoman described the response as "very positive".

"It has been a whirlwind 12 months since it was launched," Virgin spokeswoman Amber Morris said.

"We have found that there has been a massive amount of interest in the product and take up.

"It is perceived as great value for families looking for a solution that gives them both home phone and broadband in the same package for one low price with no big bills at the end of the month."

Among those who are most keen to subscribe to broadband are renters who want to avoid reconnection costs when they move house.

Subscribers are attracted also to the opportunity to use broadband for applications ranging from study to recreation.
